Background
My lifelong love of photography and the communication of ideas has led me on a journey through commercial, creative and pedagogic practice.
Prior to working in photography and education I had a long career in the commercial sector and creative industries, working in marketing on both client and agency side, commissioning the services of writers, designers and photographers. My interest in the photographic image and the power of visual communication led me to become a photographer.
Since going freelance in 1999 I have worked as a commercial photographer and have been published as a photographic artist. My personal practice is based around the landscape of the South West and has been exhibited regionally and nationally in the ‘Landscape Photographer of the Year’ awards, and in 2009 was featured in the ‘What Haunt’s You?’ exhibition at the Photographers’ Gallery in London.
I began teaching photography in 2006, developing my pedagogic practice in both Further and Higher Education. While continuing to develop my own photographic interests, education within contemporary photographic culture has now become my passion. In 2013 I was appointed as Programme Leader for Undergraduate Photography at Plymouth College of Art, and since 2015 I have been responsible for the BA (Hons) Commercial Photography Degree. I am also an external examiner for BA (Hons) Fashion Photography at London College of Fashion.
